The Joy of Giving Milk Gallery

Parijat Academy is a school for underprivileged children in Guwahati, Assam, India. The Principal (Uttam Teron) has dedicated his life to making his village a better place. Guwahati is home to thousands of children who do not have access to education. According to Uttam it is important for the children of Guwahati to have access to education because without education they risk becoming victims of child labour. Thus, to keep the children safe and also to provide them with a sense of purpose Uttam started Parijat Academy. When Uttam first started Parijat Academy he only had a dream, tin walls, a bamboo roof and a few desks which served less than 10 children. Uttam’s dream has expanded and Parijat Academy now serves 522 children.

The children are in grades ranging from nursery through high school. These children are amazing. They go to school in very poor conditions (no ac, cows and wild animals roaming the school grounds, sometimes the rain leaks into the classrooms) but they come to school everyday with a smile and open heart. I think we can all learn a lesson from these children. They have truly taught me to be thankful. But most importantly they have taught me that I may not have the best of everything, but it is important to make the best of everything I have. In the worst of conditions, these children are blooming!

Currently, there is 96 nursery children.

This Milk Programme has been initiated by lordsai.com purely with the welfare of our 3-5 year old children in mind.

They survive mainly on a diet of rice and grains due to financial inability. These children may never get to drink a glass of milk after drinking their mother's milk at home, therefore this provides the children with the opportunity to drink this life giving nectar which is so beneficial at this tender age.

Milk is an extremely beneficial drink for the health of the human body. Some of the advantages of drinking this life-giving nectar are as follows:

Calcium: Milk is the best source of calcium that we can supply to our body. Calcium protects the body from major chronic ailments such as bone loss, arthritic conditions, migraine headaches, pre-menstrual syndrome, and obesity in children. It also functions as a healthy aid in losing unwanted fats and reducing weight. Calcium is an essential mineral in the creation of bone matter, and bone mineral density measurements rely highly on calcium as the main support structure of our body. Milk is the quickest, least expensive, and most readily available source of calcium on the market.

Healthy Bones: As mentioned above, milk is rich in calcium, which is essential for growth and the proper development of strong bone structure. Bone disorders such as osteoporosis can be prevented with a significant daily intake of milk. Children deprived of cow’s milk have an increased chance of suffering from bone fractures when injured, and their healing time will be significantly higher if they don’t have a steady stream of calcium to aid in the re-growth of bone matter.

Healthy Teeth: Encouraging children and youngsters to drink milk will give them excellent dental health, as milk protects the enamel surface against acidic substances.

Finally, it’s also a lovely treat to enjoy, I remember how much my son really enjoyed it at school!
